Windermere RUFC - Under 8s
Windermere U8's v Furness U8's
Windermere played 2 matches against Furness as follows:
Windermere 16 Furness 6
Try scorers were Thomas Doyle (4), Teddy Ferguson (3), Lucy Ferguson (4),
Evan, who was on loan from Furness! (2), Henry Chamberlain (2) & Louie Drummond.
Windermere 9 Furness 2
Try scorers were Samuel Kennelly (2), Teddy Ferguson, Lucy Ferguson, Evan (3) & Thomas Doyle.
The referee even suggested Lucy be substituted in the second half of the first game
because she was tackling too many of the opposition!
All the children played extremely well - some of the best rugby we've played - which is a
fitting conclusion to the 09/10 season. Many thanks to Furness on the loan of Ben, Evan
(5 tries! - bet he was popular with his team mates) and Callum.
Player of the week is Samuel Kennelly.
Windermere U8's 6 Wigton U8's 5
Today's match was a great fun game in good conditions. Both team's played with commitment,
Windermere winning by a single try. Thanks again to Greg, for refereeing and David for
scoring, managing substitutes and providing chocolate biscuits.
Try scorers were Lucy Ferguson (3), Teddy Ferguson (2) and Henry Chamberlain (1). We rounded
of the day's activity with a game of British Bulldog, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
'Player of the week' goes to Henry who scored his first try for Windermere RUFC Under 8s.
Windermere U8's 8 Egremont U8's 7
An under-strength Windermere played Egremont, winning by just 1 try. We also had 4 new
players at the club - Tyke, Sam, Louis & Jacob - welcome to Windermere RUFC, boys!
In a fun match of much mayhem and confusion re off-side and not passing forward, referee'd
by our new coach, Greg, the children played with their usual gusto and enthusiasm.
Try scorers were Thomas Doyle (3), Teddy Ferguson (4) & Ollie Clegg (1). Lucy Ferguson did
her usual great job as team captain. Thomas Doyle is 'player of the week'.
Well done, everyone.
Penrith U8's 7 Windermere U8's 12 Penrith U8's 6 Windermere U8's 3
Windermere played two matches against Penrith, both captained by Jack Gosling, as follows:
Match 1:
Try scorers were Jack (2), Lucy Ferguson (4), Thomas Doyle (2), Teddy Ferguson (3) & new this week,
Megan Gosling, who scored a try on her first outing - well done, Megan!
Match 2:
Try scorers were Teddy F (1), Thomas Doyle (1) & Ollie Clegg (1).
I was really pleased with the turn-out, all the kids playing and passing the ball well. My thanks,
too, to all the parents, especially those who help every week with water, scoring, chocolate biscuits,
warm clothing, etc., and many other good deeds.
Player of the week is Ollie Clegg, who really played well, especially when he was passed the
ball! He's got fast feet and a lovely attitude that kid - well done.
Windermere U8's v Millom U8's
Windermere were hosts to Millom with very muddy conditions under foot. We played two matches with an
under-strength squad losing the first match by 7 to 8 and winning the second match by 8 tries to 7.
Both teams were well matched, as the score-line suggests and every player on the Windermere squad scored.
Try scorers were:
Aragon, Lucy (2), Teddy (2), Jack, James & Thomas - Match 1
Aragon (2), Lucy (2), Teddy, Jack, James & Thomas - Match 2
Thomas Doyle is Player of the Week.
Many thanks to our referee Alex Scott, who did a great job keeping the game moving under some very 'trying' circumstances.
Windermere U8's v Settle U8's
Windermere U8s won all three of their matches against North Ribblesdale (Settle) today,
as follows:-
Windermere 8 Settle 5 - try scorers were Aragon Greenway - 3, Jack Gosling - 3, Teddy Ferguson - 1,
Lucy Ferguson (c) - 1
Windermere 6 Settle 5 - try scorers were Jack Gosling - 3, Aragon Greenway - 1, Lucy Ferguson (c) - 1,
Teddy Ferguson - 1
Windermere 5 Settle 3 - try scorers were Lucy Ferguson - 2, Tom Doyle - 1, James Harris - 1, Teddy Ferguson - 1
Many thanks to North Ribblesdale for providing the referee and to David Ferguson for scoring and handling
substitutes, as he always does. Each of the matches were closely fought, the sides being well matched.
Picking the Player of the Week, always difficult, felt like something out of Strictly Come Dancing, as
both Aragon Greenway and Jack Gosling had an outstanding morning, but this week's award goes to Jack.
Wigton U8's -3 Windermere U8's - 10
Despite a long coach journey and atrocious weather, the under 8s put in a sterling effort today,
beating the hosts, Wigton, by 10 tries to 3. Scorers were Bobby Henshall-Davis (6), our captain,
Lucy Ferguson (3) and her younger brother Teddy (1). Everyone put in a great performance, with
Sarah Heap and Teddy coming within a whisker of putting another couple of tries on the score.
'Player of the Week' goes to Bobby.
I'd also like to thank all the parents who stood in the driving rain supporting us and especially
thank Christian (the ref.) and our hosts for looking after us so well - much appreciated everyone.
Windermere U8's - 4 Penrith U8's - 2
The Under 8s won their first game against Penrith 4 tries to 2. Really good effort from everyone, again,
supporting each other and using the full width of the pitch. First try was scored by James Wright, the
second by Teddy Ferguson and the last two by Lucy Ferguson, our captain.
Kirby U8's - 7 Windermere U8's 3
Unfortunately, we lost our second match against Kirkby Lonsdale by 3 tries to 7. Try scorers were Lucy (2) and
Teddy (1). One or two decisions which might have gone our way didn't and although Kirkby Lonsdale were rightly
recognised as winners, the competition was a lot more even than the score suggests.
Teddy is the deserving winner of Player of the Week.
Well done everyone!
Windermere U8's 13 - Keswick U8s 8
The under 8s won their training game against Keswick in a game of 3 'halfs'. Although we have lots of skills to work on,
the children all got involved and supported each other, using the full width of the pitch. At one point, the referee
(a Keswick coach) almost introduced a 'Lucy rule' in which she had to pass at least once - I think she was too fast
for them.
Any number of the kids could have been nominated for 'man of the match', but I awarded this to Lucy, who as team
captain had shown good leadership as well inserting herself fully into the action.
I also want to recognise Keswick, who played with sportsmanship and spirit. Everybody behaved very well. Many thanks
to Keswick for refereeing.
